A boy grows up hunting, a gamekeeper for the castle. Gerard is a hunting guide by day; but each night he dreams of the sea. As soon as he's old enough, he sails away to follow his dreams. 

Months later Gerard is marooned on an island full of natives. They adopt him, and he becomes part of the village. Five years pass before another ship arrives; but instead of a rescue, its pirates who attack the island.

The village fights back; and with help from a hunter, they capture the ship. The ship needs a new leader, and Gerard needs a way home. Can Gerard become their captain? Can he protect his ship and crew? Can Gerard hold onto the treasure he has found?
